Frequently Asked Questions

What is the American Military Heritage Society?

AMHSoc is a privately held corporation that is majority owned, and operated by veterans.  The society has existed since the early 1970’s and has now formally incorporated for the purpose of this venture.  As veterans the AMHSoc staff is committed to helping all Americans share in our countries tradition of service by making these affordable and authentic pieces of our military history available to all.

How will my purchase be used to support our veterans?

AMHSoc staff feel strongly about our obligation to help the men and women of our armed services who have sacrificed so much as they transition back to civilian life.  As veterans themselves, AMHSoc staff understands that this transition can be a difficult experience.  To fulfill this commitment, AMHSoc relies almost entirely on veterans in the assembly and manufacture of our military heritage series. AMHSoc works in collaboration with various veteran transition and homeless programs by contracting all of our manufacturing with these groups.  Your purchase of a collectable from AMHSoc allows us to provide this opportunity to our veterans as well as by making direct contributions.

Why the focus on the Civil War ?

It may appear so right now, but you will find we are not focusing on any particular war - we are focusing on our military heritage. That said, our initial product line is more heavily Civil War oriented.  As most modern historians acknowledge, the American Civil War was in many ways the defining event in our young nation's history.  With over 600,000 dead and nearly 1,000,000 wounded, the war touched the lives of virtually every American, North or South, alive during that period. Many Americans today have come to discover that their own ancestors were impacted by that struggle. Clearly, the war and its aftermath changed our nation in fundamental ways that we still experience today.

How did AMHSoc select the particular battles highlighted in the Battlefield series?

AMHSoc staff selected battles based on both their importance to the conduct of the war and their relative prominence in the popular culture. There are actually 13 other Civil  War battles we will be featuring in the coming 18 months ( Suggestions for additional entries are welcomed both for the Civil War and other conflicts).

What makes your products so special?

We intend our projects to be ready-to-display, high-end presentations that tastefully and competently represent the history of the event or person. Our frames are hand made of solid wood (shadow boxes for all Civil War Items).  All prints are reproduced on museum quality paper. The anodized brass finish plates are of high quality. We feel that these pieces are compositions that faithfully represent the spirit and nature of the history they capture, and that anyone would be proud to display them in their office or home. All of our items are limited editions, and hand-made in the USA.  We trust you will appreciate this, and that is why we have such a liberal return policy. We expect our customers to be as satisfied with our people's work as our people were in making them.  We hope our customers will come back as new lines are introduced.

How do I know these are authentic Civil War relics?

All relics are unconditionally guaranteed authentic Civil War relics. The staff at AMHSoc are experienced collectors with over 100 years of combined experience and have a thorough knowledge of the historical periods these products represent. We acquire our pieces only from known reputable sources, most times from the diggers themselves.  That knowledge and experience is the best way to ensure the authenticity of a collectable.  Before any relic is placed in your finished piece it has been checked by the collector we acquired them from, and then again by our staff. That is why they are unconditionally guaranteed authentic. Furthermore, we want to make sure you never lose our certificate of authenticity and that is why you will find them permanently affixed to the back of each piece, and signed by a member of the Society.

How do I know these relics are recovered from the area you say they are from?

In most cases the designated recovery areas are the representations of the diggers, collectors or dealers we acquire them from. In this matter we are dependent on the integrity of the provider as to the specific recovery location. We will only deal with reputable people and we do obtain authentication from them as to the specific location of the recovery whenever possible.  We have never had any doubts as to their representations to date. We seek only relics recovered from Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania - operating areas of the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Northern Virginia - (unless we specifically state otherwise).  We have no doubts as to their representations and as previously stated, we have a considerable amount of experience in collecting ourselves.

Is AMHS going to offer products from other wars?

Most definitely, yes.  We will continue to add items to our existing lines (The Revolutionary War, The Civil War and The War of 1812) and in addition, we will be featuring pieces from World War I, Vietnam and later this year, World War II, which we are very excited about.  We will continually update and add new items and new lines for our military heritage series.
