Perhaps the greatest cavalryman of the war, Forrest was greatly feared by Union forces. William Tecumseh Sherman once wrote to Secretary of War Stanton, “Forrest is the very devil. If we must sacrifice 10,000 lives and bankrupt the Federal Treasury, it will be worth it (to kill or capture him).” Forrest enlisted as a private and rose to the rank of Lieutenant General, the only man to do so. According to noted historian Shelby Foote, Forrest was one of the two true geniuses the war produced. His battlefield strategies and tactics, such as demonstrated at the Battle of Brice’s Cross Roads, are studied to this day.
This beautiful piece is framed in a cherry stained solid wood shadowbox, 12 by 10 inches and 2 and 1/8 inches deep, with a glass face - all made in the USA. It includes the relics as described above. The depth of the box adds a beautiful effect to the piece. Annotations are on the back of the frame and each has been individually signed by AMHSoc, denoting its origin as the limited edition piece that it is. Images are available in gray tones and Sepia.
